WKTV – Several student-athletes have punched their tickets to individual state tournaments in men’s tennis and men’s golf.

In men’s tennis, eighth-placed Gunter Weldon of Cooperstown and junior David Fenner of New Hartford are two of three Division III singles representatives heading to the state championships at the US Open National Tennis Center in Flushing. Meadows in Queens.

On Thursday, Fenner and Weldon faced off in the Section III State Qualifying Tournament at Mott Tennis Court on the Utica Boardwalk, where Weldon beat Fenner 6-2, 6-2 in straight sets to win the match. and earn the top seed in Section III. in the tournament.

Balwinsville’s Antonio Marsallo was the third Section III singles qualifier. The state tournament begins on June 2.

In men’s golf, Caleb Decker of VVS, Gabe Williams of Waterville and Campbell Jenkins of New Hartford are three of nine representatives to qualify for the Division III state tournament.

Jenkins was the top local finisher, finishing second in the state qualifying tournament with a combined score of 152 between two rounds. He was four strokes behind Westhill point guard Anthony Maglisco.

The Boys State Golf Tournament takes place at the Mark Twain Golf Course in Elmira June 4-6.
