The six-member US Olympic table tennis team is full after last week’s Olympic trials.
Nikhil kumar and Zhou Xin joins the already qualified Rio Olympian Kanak Jha in the men’s team. Wang huijing and Liu Juan joins the already qualified Olympic veteran Lily zhang in the women’s team, according to TeamUSA.org.
The United States has no Olympic table tennis medals, although Zhang and Jha won bronze medals at the Youth Olympics.
Kumar, 17, became the first American born in 2003 to qualify for the Olympics. He reached the second round of the 2019 Pan Am Games, where Jha won a bronze medal.
Wang, 39, is on the cusp of becoming the second-oldest U.S. Olympic table tennis player since joining the program in 1988. Liu is a former Chinese national team player who became a U.S. citizen in 2016, according to TeamUSA.org.
Later Sunday, 16 Colin duffy completed the first American Olympic sport climbing team by winning the Pan American Championships in Los Angeles. Duffy, world youth champion in the leading discipline, joined the already qualified group Nathaniel Coleman, Kyra Condie and Brooke Raboutou.
